Damon TONG, 唐偉傑

BIOGRAPHY

Born in Hong Kong in 1979, Damon Tong received his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (co-presented with the Hong Kong Art School) in 2008 and his Master of Visual Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013. He is also a member of Rental United, an artist trio established in 2009, known for its participatory practices.

1979年⽣於⾹港，唐偉傑於2008年獲得皇家墨爾本理⼯⼤學（與⾹港藝術學院合辦）美術學⼠學位，並於2013年獲得⾹港浸信會視覺藝術碩⼠學位。他亦是2009年成⽴的創作組合”夾租團”成員之⼀，該組織主要從事參與性創作。

STATEMENT

My creations mainly revolve around mundane events in my daily life. I create sticker collages comprised of thousands of small stickers assembled into simple phrases or patterns. The work may seem banal at first, but the overly repetitive arrangement makes it appear to have an overtone. The bright colours and patterns of the stickers provide a visually stimulating experience, albeit the conceptual content of my work is deliberately straightforward. This oxymoronic display is a common technique I use to enable unpredictable scenes.

我的創作主要圍繞著我日常生活中的平凡事物。我的貼紙拼貼畫作大多是由數千個小貼紙組合而成簡單的短語或圖案。作品一開始可能看起來很平庸，但這種過份重複的安排是試圖令觀者認為作品似乎另有弦外之音的手段。我的作品的概念內容故意簡單明了，但貼紙的明亮色彩和圖案視覺正創造了覺刺激的體驗。這種矛盾的展示是我製作不可預測意景的常用手法。
